When an Accident Turns Into an Opportunity

Accident- an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury

As a Christ follower, I do not believe that anything happens by accident or coincidence. I believe in a sovereign God who knows everything that will happen before it occurs!

Proverbs 16:9, “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”

With that in mind, let meget into this story.  On 10/31/2017, I was on my way to an appointment and had to stop at the store to pick something up. Well apparently the Lord had another type of appointment for me. On my way to the store, I was struck by another vehicle! Thank the Lord there were no injuries, and there was no significant damage to either one of the cars.  When the young lady got out of her car, she was apologizing profusely, and I reassured her that it was ok and that it could have been worse.

I have to be real with all of you, even though I responded to her in that way, my initial feeling was anger. As I was talking to her and waiting for the police to arrive on the scene, the Holy Spirit continued to nudge me to speak to her about Him. Well, I tried to ignore it because I did not know what I would say, nor did I want to come off as weird or anything like that. Simply put, I was being disobedient to what the Lord was directing me to do! Well, we did some small talk after giving the police officer our information, and it was taking him a while to enter our data into the system. While waiting for that, I kept feeling the nudging of the Holy Spirit, so I began to engage her in conversation about the Lord. I asked her if she went to church, gave her my testimony, and shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with her and then invited her to Crossroads (I just so happen to have a Crossroads submerged shirt on).

During that whole encounter, we were only interrupted once and at the end of it, we exchanged numbers. Once we exchanged numbers, not even 2 minutes later, the police officer was done entering in the report, gave us our information and told us we could go. A little bit later I received a text from this young lady apologizing again and thanking me for the conversation that we had. She asked me to pray for her to get on the right track!

I share this story because I know many people are reading this who are in the middle of an “accident or unfortunate incident,” and while it can be challenging while in the midst of it and of course we are tempted to get angry and just look at the situation. I challenge you all to look at the Lord, fix your eyes on Him and know that there is an opportunity that He is providing in the midst of the “accident.” We get to choose how we respond, we can look at our situation and get stuck there, continuing to be disobedient to the Lord, or we can look to what the Lord is trying to do in the midst and follow His leading! Remember, He will never lead us astray even in a divinely appointed “accident.” God bless you all and join me in praying for the other young lady involved in the accident, that she comes to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior!

Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to His purpose.”
